Red, Red Wine

Tuesday, June 18th, 2013

We had a fabulous week at Lake Siskiyou Campground and RV park on Lake Siskiyou.  Our friends, Janet and Tony, Kip and Pat, Ed and Peggy and our now new friends Tom and Leslie joined us for will definitely be a camp out that will be remembered fondly.

Every time this group gets together you just never know!  We golfed two days, laid around the beach (the water was just too cold to swim) ate way too much and of course there were the cocktails! This camp out will be remembered as the “Monkey got choked” outing!  How you ask?  Well because no one for 6 days could get that song out of their heads after Janet related it to the ages of 3 of the women, 53, 56, and 59!  It all happened around the campfire on our second evening and then the next day Tom googled it and found that it is a clapping song!  We thought it was a playground jumprope jingle!  Remember the playground, jumprope, hula hoop, chinese jumprope, cats cradle and that hand clapping thing we did?  Yep, we were all reliving our childhood, relearning that silly song.  Later in the week, Kip who is the singer in the group said he thought it was the same tune as Red, Red Wine and sure enough after googling that there is a version that has the part about the Monkey chewing tobacco and falling off the line!

So for anyone that can’t remember the jingle here it is!

3, 6, 9 the Goose drank wine, the monkey chewed the tobacco on the street care line and the line broke, the monkey got choked and the all went to heaven in a lil row boat.  Clap, Clap!

Now, try to get that out of your thoughts!

50K….and what it means

Monday, June 17th, 2013

We just rolled the odometer past 50,000 miles on our Motorhome.  We bought it 6 years ago this month.  When we bought the RV it had 8,900 miles on it, so we have driven it 41,000 miles or 6,850 miles per year.  If you are thinking of all the fuel we have used or how much we have paid for fuel here is something to think about.  6,850 miles per year at 8 miles to the gallon is about 860 gallons of fuel a year.  That is less fuel than I used just to commute to downtown to work 5 days a week.

We have made two trips to the east coast, traveled from Florida to Maine and across to Montana.  We have been to the Olympic Peninsula, New Mexico and wound our way across the midwest a couple of times.  We have been up and down the West Coast seeing so much.  So as Paul and I both keep saying we use way less fuel than we did during our working lives and we get to see so much more!

Paul loves donuts so he and Stephanie made a plan to try a new local donuts shop Saturday morning before we head to Mt. Shasta.  Psycho Donuts in Campbell is not your ordinary corner donut spot.  This place puts a whole new meaning to donuts and the health risks of eating them.

Look at the size of the box for 6 donuts!

Look at the size of the box for 6 donuts!

We bought 6 donuts and 4 of us could not eat them!  They have crazy toppings, funny names and are big enough that 1/2 a donut is too much.  I had the apricot fritter and it was tasty and covered two breakfasts for me.  We do like to try these creative businesses – not sure this will be a repeat but it was interesting.

After filling ourselves with an extreme sugar high we loaded ourselves into our home on wheels and headed north to Lake Siskiyou Camp and RV resort near Mt. Shasta.  We arrived on Sunday to very warm weather where we quickly got set up, greeted our friends, 4 couples that are spending the week with us and headed to the lake for a quick dip before dinner!  The RV park is very nice and located on this small lake north of Lake Shasta with amazing views of Mt. Shasta.

Mt. Shasta is amazingly large.  We could see it coming on I5 from Redding which is over 70 miles away. The park has lots of trees and is very quiet.  The beach is really nice although we are not getting to spend much time there because it has cooled off substantially.  We are getting in some golf while we wait for the weather to warm up, hopefully by the weekend.

ShastaA very challenging course with spectacular views.  Two rounds of 9 holes and I am very satisfied with my game!  Putting is another story.

I’ve had better days!

I found out Friday that I had eaten the tainted Costco berries and of course the Dr. wants me to get the Hepatitis A vaccine!  Great, so I throw the last 1/2 cup of berries away and head to the clinic to get a shot.  While I am at it I also get my monthly blood test.  The good news is I didn’t get sick, the bad news is I have a bandage over the shot area and in my arm, I look terrible.

That same evening I did something that I have no idea of and put my back on suspension – I can’t stand up for a day and a half!  Lots of icy-hot patches and by Friday evening I am feeling pretty good!  Back is very sore but we are heading to Lake Siskiou for a week and I see lots of margaritas and other libations in my future!

We left Campbell this am and headed towards Lake Shasta, the weather was predicted to be quite warm.  We arrived at a very nice RV park in Corning, CA  and it was only 109 at 4 pm!  We didn’t leave the rv until 8:30.  It is at least 90 out there still!  Ouch!

Here’s to a week of relaxing, good friends, lots of laughs and of course those cold frosty drinks!

Learning to be patient

It has been a very exciting few weeks.  The addition is moving along and we are seeing real progress.

Forms

The forms were laid, leveled, inspected and then we get to….

Pour!

Pour!

Paul tries to help.

Paul tries to help.

Paul being the frugal guy he is knows there will be extra cement in the delivery truck so he sets himself some forms and gets to finish a bonus project.

Paul is getting to do his project

This guy was so little and so strong.  He was pushing cement, helping Paul spread it and Paul was trying to keep up!  We were exhausted after pouring our couple of yards of cement.  We now have a nice ramp to get into the shed so I can get the mower out and mow the lawn.  There is something wrong with that statement!  We don’t own a house or a lawn, why am I mowing the lawn?  I know, I have more time than the girls do and I need the exercise.  The same argument I used when I use to make their lunches for school instead of them doing it themselves!  I love being a parent.

After the cement things got kind of slow while the contractor laid the plumbing, reinforced the foundation, getting permits, getting them signed off but then this week things took off again.
